Our History

It was on 21 April, 1932 the existence of Shree Vishwanath Marwari Databya Aushadhalaya found its place in papers in a special meeting headed by Lt. Rameshwarlalji Saharia. However, it was in the year 1946 the establishment got a physical shape in the form of two storied building at A.T. Road, Dibrugarh. Initially the establishment was in the form of a small campus, but with the increasing number of patients flow soon it got expanded to a two storied building by the gracious donation of Lt. Shat Rampaddasji Goenka (of M/S Rampaddas Rameshwarlalji Goenka) along with cash amount of Rs. 8106/- .

On 11 April, 1933 the Aushadhalaya building was formally inaugurated by then Governor of Assam Mr. Keane. On 1 July, 1934 ayurvedic sales department was opened. As the increasing expenditure was unbearable to meet therefore gradually the groundfloor area started to be distributed on rent basis to small shoppers.

As Dibrugarh has always been a medical hub, has large number of patient flow. Seeing the flow, need was felt for building accommodation facility for patient’s attendants. With this intention Marwari Arogya Bhawan came into being. It was in the year 1957, this unique facility was built by the Charitable Society of Shree Vishwanath Marwari Databya Aushadhalaya under the banner of Marwari Arogya Bhawan, during the tenure of Executive Committee headed by Lt. Durgaduttji Harlalka. The present land on which the bhawan is standing was purchased from Lt. Kundalmalji Badraj. Initially the first structure of the bhawan was a 4 roomed complex, gradually with the increase in demand, its growth hiked and presently it has 40 rooms providing home away from home to patients and its attendant.

With the success of Aushadhalaya and Marwari Arogya Bhawan, the then executive members tried to expand bit further and thought of not restricting their health services to just Ayurvedic medicines. Therefore, with members’ effort and society co-operation Marwari Arogya Bhawan Hospital came into being. The foundation stone for the hospital was laid on 25th August 1972, however the hospital construction got completed in the year 1982 under the supervision of Lt. Nandlal Todi and Lt. Ambika Prasad Kedia. Initially the hospital covered an area of 1700 sq.ft.. With the dedicated and deliberate effort of Lt. Sawarmal Kayal and Lt. Loknath Kejriwal, it was inaugurated on 31st January, 1985.

During the period various counters were opened like, store, canteen, generator set, laboratory, x-ray, and medicine counter for the smooth running of the hospital. The treatment provided by Dr. D.Maheshwari and Dr. N.Sahewalla were highly appreciated by the society and hospital gained popularity. Gradually, on 1st August, 1987 the decision was taken to expand the building area to 1st and 2nd floor which got completed on 11 October, 1988, along with facilities of Baby Room, Laproscopy and Endoscopy.

On 17th December, 2000 Blood Bank was opened, at the same period the land opposite Arogya Bhawan compound was donated to this prestigious society by Mr. Mahabir Prasadji Kejriwal and his brothers in the Punya Samriti of their beloved father Lt. Gowardhandasji Kejriwal.
